Steinway Artists Carles Lama and Sofia Cabruja are the Catalan duo with the most international projection . Considered by audiences and critics as two musicians with an undeniable ability to move the viewer, the duo also shows spectacular synchronization and exceptional mutual understanding .
Their international career, since 1987 , has led them to perform at Carnegie Hall (New York), the Teatre Solís (Montevideo) or the Palau de la Música Catalana , among others, both in four-handed recitals and with outstanding orchestras.
Distinguished artists of the label KNS Classical,his extensive discography includes the most outstanding works of Schubert, Brahms or Rachmaninov, the integral of the Australian composer John Carmichael, as well as unique and exclusive projects such as the opera “Goyescas” by Granados or the “Brahms Lieder”.
Always committed to social problems, in 2001 they received from HRH the Infanta Margarita de Borbón, an honorary distinction from UNICEF for its humanitarian work.
In 2012 they founded their own solidarity project: Concerts4Good, Music on a Mission.
In 2017, coinciding with the 30-year career, they were awarded the Gold Star for Professional Excellence and the Gold Medal for Merit in Work.
In 2018 they also receive the European Gold Cross.
CATALONIA SOLOIST ORCHESTRA
The “Solistes de Catalunya” Orchestra is a newly created orchestra , founded and led by the internationally renowned Catalan piano duo, “Carles & Sofia piano duo”.
Founded in 2019, it is made up of virtuoso musicians and is designed to take advantage of their individual qualities, while offering high-level performances of orchestral demand.
True to their way of being in professional terms, pursuing excellence, professionalism and a high level of performance, Carles & Sofia create the orchestra with the aim of giving voice to young virtuoso instrumentalists and with theI wish it would end up becoming a benchmark in our country.
The official debut of the orchestra took place at the Sant Pere de Rodes Music Festival.
DANIEL MESTRE, director
Born in Igualada, Daniel Mestre studied at the Escolania de Montserrat , at the Conservatories of Badalona, Barcelona (violin, piano, singing), UAB, and at the Konservatorium der Stadt Wien , where he graduated in high school. qualifications conducting the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra at the Konzerthaus in Vienna. He also attends choral conducting courses with Pierre Cao and Laszlo Heltay and conducting with Antoni Ros-Marbà.
In the 2004-2005 season he took part as assistant director in various productions at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Since 2005 he has been a professor of chamber music and regularly conducts the Choir, Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatori Superior del Liceu. He is the musical director of his Young Opera Company , with which he directs operas by Salieri, Mozart, Bizet, Von Suppé, Toldrà, Donizetti, Puccini, Menotti and Rossini. He has been principal conductor of the Cape Town Opera Chorus (South Africa). , Orquestra Simfònica Gèrminans, Coro de la Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Cor Fòrum Vocal, assistant conductor of the Palau Chamber Choir and the Gran Teatre del Liceu. He is a professor at the Conservatori Superior del Liceu, where he regularly conducts his choir, orchestra and opera productions, and at the ESMUC,
where he works as a conductor and is the musical director of his opera workshop. He is invited to participate in various international music courses and festivals in our country and in Italy, Hungary, South Africa and Argentina.
He has recorded for Columna Música with the Chamber Choir Fòrum Vocal and for Austrian, South African, RNE-Radio Clásica and Catalunya Música radios.
