HANS CHAN, piano
Hans Chan, 27, originally from St. Louis, Missouri, USA, is a graduate student at the New England Conservatory, where he studies with Alexander Korsantia. Since beginning his piano studies at the age of eight, he has won numerous awards, including prizes at the MTNA National Young Artist Piano Competition, the ArtePiano International e-Competition, the Carles & Sofia International Piano Competition, and the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition.
He has been awarded scholarships at festivals such as the Kneisel Hall Chamber Festival, Pianofest in the Hamptons and PianoSummer at New Paltz, and has participated in master classes taught by prominent teachers such as Douglas Humpherys, Gilbert Kalish and Boris Slutsky.
Hans has performed as a soloist with the Alicante Symphony Orchestra in Italy, and has given recitals in cities such as Gijón, Seattle, Rochester and St. Louis.
He is also a committed chamber musician. His trio, Trio Tyche, was selected as an Honors Ensemble of the New England Conservatory for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Hans completed his undergraduate studies at the Eastman School of Music / University of Rochester, earning a double degree in Piano Performance and Economics.
HUGUES LECLÈRE, piano
Born in France, Hugues Leclère perfects himself with Catherine Collard before entering, as first class, the National Conservatory of Music in Paris, where he obtains three First Prizes unanimously in piano, musical analysis and chamber music.
He then began a career that has taken him to perform in 45 countries, with more than 1,000 concerts, at the Philharmonie de Paris, at the Radio France Auditorium, at the Musée d'Orsay, at the Nohant Chopin Festival, at the Vézère Festival... and also in Asia, Russia, Central America, South America and North America, as well as in most European countries: the Concertgebouw and the Amsterdam Opera, the Musikhalle in Hamburg, the Pushkin Hall in Moscow, the Coimbra Festival in Portugal...
He is regularly invited by many orchestras, such as the Camerata of the Berlin Philharmonic, the National Radio Orchestra of Prague, the National Orchestra of Lorraine, the Orchestra of Auvergne, the National Orchestra of Mexico City, the Orchestra of the Republican Guard, the Minsk Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Samara, the Orchestra of Timisoara, the Philharmonic of Brașov or the Reichenbach Philharmonic, under the direction of Jacques Mercier, Jean-Pierre Wallez, Arie van Beek, Mikhail Shcherbakov, Ondrej Lenard, Sébastian Lang-Lessing, Vladimir Válek and Stefan Fraas, among others.
A privileged interpreter of Debussy, Ravel and his contemporaries, Hugues Leclère shows his full maturity in the Germanic repertoire, which he approaches both as a soloist and in chamber music. His passion for Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven has led him to seek the original sounds of classical instruments. He owns a copy of a Stein piano that is ideally suited to the masterpieces of the late 18th century. He is a regular collaborator with Augustin Dumay, the Berlin Philharmonic String Quintet, the Paris Orchestra Soloists and the Modigliani, Talich, Debussy, Amarcord and Mandelring quartets.
A recognized figure in contemporary artistic life and member of SACEM, Hugues Leclère has commissioned more than fifty new works, written for him by forty-five composers. With his projects Debussy, poète de la modernité (2012, premiered at the Cité de la Musique and presented more than fifty times around the world), Debussy, 12 Études de modernité (premiered at the Festival Musica in 2018) and Beethoven, les Bagatelles entrelacées , commissioned by the Philharmonie de Paris, he seeks to illuminate the links between the creative processes of past centuries and those of our time.
Also a member of the SACD, passionate about literature and history, he conceives original shows that intertwine different artistic expressions, especially with the actors Marie-Christine Barrault, Daniel Mesguich, Francis Huster and Alain Carré, as well as with the painter Ruben Maya. In 2013, he conceived three original shows that obtained the official seal of the Mission of the Centenary of the First World War, among which L'Engrenage 1913–14 stands out , with more than forty performances. In 2021, he created L'autre Royaume , where he shared the stage with the writer Pascal Quignard.
Improviser, Hugues Leclère has been collaborating since 2017 with pianist and improviser Jean-François Zygel in three shows that combine the performance of works by great composers with improvisation: Bachmania (2017), Debussymania (2018) and Beethovenmania (2019).
Hugues Leclère is a piano teacher at the Paris Regional Conservatory, where he also coordinates the Parcours d'Excellence in Interprétation Musicale (PEIM).
