El Port de la Selva launches a participatory process to define a new waste collection model

18/06/2025

The El Port de la Selva Town Council has launched a participatory process aimed at rethinking the municipality’s waste collection model. This initiative comes at a key moment, as the current waste collection contract has expired and a new, more efficient and sustainable model, aligned with current regulations, must be defined.

The aim of the process is to listen to the opinions, proposals and concerns of residents and key economic sectors (commerce, hospitality, and campsites) in order to include them in the definition of the future waste management system. This system will need to address new environmental challenges and comply with European requirements on recycling and waste reduction.

How can you participate?

On Friday, June 27, there will be an information point at the municipal market where people can learn more about the process and ask questions.

Two participatory sessions open to the public have been organized: on Friday, July 4 at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, July 5 at 10:00 a.m. Both sessions will be held at Espai Port and will offer the same content to make attendance easier.

These meetings will present the proposed model for improving selective waste collection in El Port de la Selva. Citizens’ feedback and suggestions will also be collected and considered in the drafting of the new waste management contract.

At the same time, meetings have been held with representatives from the commercial, restaurant and campsite sectors to better understand their specific needs and concerns.

All information about the participatory process can be found on the citizen participation platform:
