Since March 1998, El Port de la Selva has been part of the Cap de Creus Natural Park, including both terrestrial and maritime areas, with different levels of protection depending on the zone.

The Cap de Creus Peninsula, located at the northeastern tip of Catalonia, spans around 10,000 hectares and 50 km of coastline. Its landscape alternates rugged mountains, deep ravines, and spectacular cliffs. The area is rich in heritage, from megalithic dolmens to the Romanesque Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, and has diverse Mediterranean flora and fauna. Marine life is particularly exceptional, with coral reefs, migratory species like whales and dolphins, and permanent species such as monkfish, scorpionfish, and lobsters.

The park in numbers:

  • Land area: 10,780 ha (including 3,276 ha of integral natural reserves and 900 ha of other reserves)

  • Marine area: 3,064 ha (including 835 ha of marine reserves)

  • Municipalities: Cadaqués, Llançà, Palau-Saverdera, Pau, Port de la Selva, Roses, La Selva de Mar, Vilajuïga

Rules and conservation:

  • Motorized traffic is prohibited off roads.

  • Camping, fires, and introducing species are strictly regulated.

  • Fishing, diving, and recreational activities in marine reserves are regulated to protect ecosystems.

  • Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery

  • Savredera Hill, with panoramic views of the Gulf of Roses and the Pyrenees

  • Megalithic dolmens and historical castles and hermitages throughout the park

  • Coastal itineraries including Portlligat, Cap de Creus Lighthouse, and northern cliffs

Summer activities:

  • Guided visits to the Integral Natural Reserve

  • Guided tours of the Tudela area

  • Family activities in El Port de la Selva
